One man who came out of yesterday's defeat with praise was midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The Uruguayan, who has flourished since his summer move from Sampdoria, was dogged and resilient alongside Matteo Guendouzi in midfield, but admitted post-match that achieving a top four position would be tough.
Speaking to the official Arsenal website, the 22-year-old said: “It was a very difficult game to come up against one of the best sides in the Premier League.
“When we got it to 1-1, we were doing well. We were pressing in a nice way, using the space on the pitch well. Then of course, the quality of their players meant they could get the second goal. Really, that changed the game.
“Then in the second-half it was a completely different game. We couldn't create the chances, they did, and they got the third goal.”
Despite the loss, Torreira was keen to point out that there's a long way to go in the battle for Champions League football: “We know there's other teams around us fighting for fourth and it's going to be an intense battle for the Champions League spots, but there's a long way to go. Today United have overtaken us – it's important to turn the page as quickly as possible.”
