Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admits he is a big fan of Jack Wilshere but says there has been no talk about a possible return as of yet. Wilshere is without a club having mutually terminated his contract at West Ham at the beginning of October. The 28-year-old has been ravaged by injury problems in recent seasons, making just 19 appearances for the Hammers in just over two campaigns at the club.
However, he conceded it was unlikely to come to fruition.
“You never know. I’m an Arsenal man,” he told the ITV Football Show.
“I’ve not spoken to anyone or anything. But I mean that would be, like, the dream.
“Listen, I’m not stupid to know there’s probably no chance of it happening.
“But I’m an Arsenal man. I love the club, I want to see the club do well.”
Meanwhile, former Tottenham striker and Arsenal fan Darren Bent would love to see Wilshere back at the Emirates.
“I hope he does [return], pay as you play, Jack Wilshere,” Bent said on talkSPORT.
“Why not? Do you know what I mean? Creativity, pay as you play, I know he’d be hungry to go back to Arsenal, I know how much he loves the club.
“I’m not saying give him a normal contract but pay as you play. I’d take him back tomorrow.
“He’s only 28 as well. Pay as you play, makes sense. Jack Wilshere: back.”
