Sao Paulo striker Brenner has caught the eye of the Gunners after scoring 15 goals in just 25 games this season, but Arsenal face competition from a number of European giants, including the likes of Juventus, Lazio and AC Milan.
According to The Sun [via Calciomercato], Brenner has personally caught the eye of Mikel Arteta for his fine performances. Sao Paulo have managed an unbeaten run of games since September, aided in part by the 20-year-old’s prolific scoring form.
With other interest emerging from Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain, competition will be fierce for the youngster’s signature, especially amid claims that Sao Paulo would accept a fee below that of his reported £45m release clause.
In a further boost for the London club, Brenner also possesses an Italian passport. In a similar vein to how Martinelli joined the Gunners, this means that the Brazilian can bypass existing legislation which typically leaves Brazilian imports needing a work permit to play in the UK. This would make any possible deal a much smoother affair, increasing the likelihood of a European move materialising for the emerging striker.

Could Brenner essentially be the next Martinelli?
His prolific form is not to be discounted. Given that Martinelli transitioned from Brazilian fourth-tier outfit Ituano immediately to one of the world’s most competitive leagues, there is every chance that Brenner could make the leap from his homeland to the Premier League.
Martinelli boasted similar numbers to Brenner at Ituano; he managed 10 goals in 34 games, having made his first team debut before his 17th birthday.
The similarities are striking. If Arsenal end up making a move for the 20-year-old Sao Paulo striker and can ward off the competition, they may well have another Brazilian gem on their hands.
