Former Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna has hit back at former team mate Fabregas over the Spaniard’s recent comments on why he left Arsenal in 2011.

Fabregas was pretty much the jewel in the crown during Arsene Wenger’s reign at the Emirates as he broke through the ranks as a teenager.

The Spaniard, as TUKO.co.ke reported, comprehensively talked about his time at North London at the Arsenal podcast where he blatantly claimed he left for Barcelona since the Gunners squad at the time was pretty much hopeless.

He claimed: “I was the captain, I always felt so much pressure on myself. I had to lead this team to win something. I gave everything,”

According to Fabregas, in the weeks leading up to his famous exit for Barcelona in 2011, only Robin Van Persie and Samir Nasri were playing in the same wavelength as himself.

Bacary Sagna clearly was not impressed by Fabregas’ sentiments as he hit back at his former team mate.

Sagna, who was part of the PFA Team of the year twice during his Premier League stint, faulted Fabregas as he expressed more was expected of the captain at the time.

“From him I was surprised because he was supposed to be one of the leaders of the team, he was one of the great prospects and as a leader and a true player, you don’t speak like that about your club,” Sagna told goal.

While maintaining that he still considered Fabregas a nice guy, Sagna was rather disappointed by the Spaniard’s sentiments, especially since Arsenal was the team which groomed him.

“Arsenal made him so saying that some players were not at his level was a bit harsh because I’m not sure out of all the seasons he was playing at the club, he was always an exemplary player,”

He went on to cite a classic example of how media was adamant Fabregas was a quality player in 2011 but he “didn’t run enough”.

“At that time the press was talking about him not running enough or tracking back. So other players could have said ‘you should be running more or doing more’.

Fabregas’ move from Emirates came with success as he won two La Liga titles at Barcelona while his infamous return to the Premier League with Chelsea
