Arsenal are weighing up an ambitious move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking ranks and has seemingly prioritised the signing of an attacking midfielder.

The north Londoners currently have Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid but it is believed they will not have the funds to make that deal permanent in the summer window.

The Athletic claims that Arsenal chiefs have accepted they they don’t have £40million to fork out on the midfielder, and have instead turned their attention elsewhere.

And United playmaker Lingard, who has endured a stuttering campaign so far, is one player that has attracted Arteta’s attention.

It has been suggested that Arsenal and United have a good relationship when it comes to transfers, having dealt with each other a number of times over the years.

Deals include the swap move between Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez and the deadline day signing of Danny Welbeck in 2014.

Whether the move for Lingard materialises remains to be seen and it is understood any potential deal would depend on Ceballos’s future.

For now, though, Lingard’s attention will be solely on focusing on his fitness during the coronavirus lockdown.

And the Red Devils ace recently revealed he and his Manchester United team-mates are still in regular contact with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they look to maintain a tight bond.

“We have a WhatsApp group with the fitness coach,” he told Sky Sports News . “He’s giving us daily fitness plans to do all week, so we’re all keeping active.

“We’re in contact with the manager and the coaching staff, seeing how they’re getting on, so we’re still a tight-knit group.”
