Azeez, 18, is well thought of at the Emirates, and was handed his senior debut against Dundalk last season by boss Mikel Arteta.

Given the number of players ahead of him in the pecking order, however, the Gunners are eager to loan him out to gain first-team experience.

And according to Football London, Portsmouth have won the race.

They report that the midfielder has arrived at Pompey to complete the move today.

The League One side’s boss Danny Cowley previously managed Emile Smith Rowe while in charge at Huddersfield, when Arsenal loaned their starlet to the Terriers during the 2019-20 season.

And when speculation first began surrounding Azeez, Cowley himself admitted that his relationship with Smith Rowe was probably a factor.

He told HampshireLive: “He’s a boy I know, he’s a very good player.

“We obviously have a good relationship with Arsenal because of Ems [Emile Smith Rowe].”

At the time, however, Cowley initially dismissed rumours surrounding Azeez.

He said: “It’s probably people putting two and two together and getting five.”

Azeez was included on the bench for the Premier League clash with Sheffield United back in April.

And he made further waves in pre-season, scoring an impressive effort against Watford for the Gunners.
