ARSENAL are set to miss out on Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico after his agent hinted the left-back is planning a move to Italy.
Unai Emery was reportedly considering an £8million bid for the Argentine, who has played a big part in the Amsterdam outfit’s Champions League fairytale this season.
Although he missed the crunch 2-1 quarter-finals victory over Juventus last week, Tagliafico has been Erik ten Hag’s regular this season gaining attention from Europe’s top clubs.
Tottenham, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were all believed to have joined Arsenal in the race for his signature.
But the left-back’s agent Ricardo Schlieper has revealed his player prioritises a move to Serie A because of cultural similarities between Italy and Argentine.
He told FC Inter News: “Inter and Italian football are always attractive destinations for Argentine players.
“Let’s not forget, like it was once said, that we’re Italians who speak Spanish.
“Everything’s very familiar. It’s like being at home.
“Tagliafico has always been our priority for Italy, but in the most appropriate moment we will find the right place. We will see what happens.”
READY TO MOVE ON
Tagliafico has rejected a contract extension offer and revealed earlier this month he is likely to leave Ajax at the end of the current season.
The Argentine also admitted he was flattered by the interest from Premier League clubs.
He said: “I think in the summer it could be a natural time to take the step.
“But I try not to think about taking that step just yet because we have many important games to focus on.
“Yes, it’s flattering because I think it’s the most competitive league.
“When you are a child, the target is to come to Europe and play in a top league like the Premier League.”
Tagliafico has scored five goals and added six assists for Ajax this season.
