Celtic v St. Mirren – Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership
Arsenal will need to pay around £50 million if they wish to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer, according to The Celtic Star, and that price tag shouldn’t put the Gunners off.
Mirror Sport claim that Arsenal are keen on bringing the 22-year-old Frenchman to the Emirates this summer, as they line up potential replacements for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the club bracing for his exit.
Hoops forward Edouard has been in electric form for the Scottish champions this season, scoring 21 goals in 27 league games, while also registering an additional 12 assists.
As such, a number of clubs have joined the race for the in-demand forward, who Celtic won’t want to lose this summer unless they are paid handsomely.
The Celtic Star claim, through a club insider, that the Bhoys will demand double the amount Arsenal paid for Kieran Tierney last summer, which was around £25 million.
Should Arsenal be quoted that amount, they shouldn’t be deterred as Edouard could be a great replacement for Aubameyang, and £50 million might just be worth paying to secure an adequate replacement.
At just 22-years old, Edouard has performed remarkably so early into his career, as exemplified by his goalscoring record this season. Should he join a better team that excel in creating opportunities for their forwards, he could go from strength to strength.
In modern football, prices for genuine talent are no longer going to be respectable, and given the lesser options out there that would likely cost a similar fee, Arsenal could be wise to consolidate their future plans through a sizeable investment in Edouard, who has been compared positively to Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero.
With a goal record that impressive, the Frenchman could be worth the gamble.
