ARSENAL are reportedly looking to raid Borussia Dortmund for a third time as they look to lure midfielder Julian Weigl to the Emirates in January.
The Gunners nabbed both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis Papastathopoulos from the German side in 2018, and now look to strike again.
According to Sport Bild, former scout of the Bundesliga side Sven Mislintat – now head of recruitment for Arsenal – is pushing for the move to sign Weigl.
Mislintat helped in the recruitment process of bringing the German international to Signal Iduna Park in 2015 from 1860 Munich.
The 23-year-old has fallen out of favour with boss Lucien Favre – appearing just three times in the top-flight this season.
However, it appears unlikely that Dortmund will sanction the sale in the winter transfer window as they push for a first league title since 2012.
He could be a direct replacement for Aaron Ramsey – who will not be offered a new deal by Unai Emery's club.
Weigl is currently tied down at Dortmund until 2021, and would likely command a whopping transfer fee of £68million.
Manchester City are known to be admirers of the defensive midfielder, though Ajax ace Frenkie de Jong is believed to be their number one target.
Arsenal have also been boosted in their hunt to sign Juan Mata, with the Manchester United maestro weighing up his future at Old Trafford.
