Arsenal are reportedly targeting two more signings before the end of the summer transfer window but will likely have to sell some of their existing players before they can afford to invest in new talent.
Goal’s Chris Wheatley reported a “fast, direct winger” is a priority for manager Unai Emery, who will also look to bring in a new left-back if the north Londoners offload Nacho Monreal.
According to Wheatley, the list of players who could be sold to free up funds includes Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Danny Welbeck, Petr Cech, David Ospina, Carl Jenkinson and Lucas Perez.
The Gunners have refreshed the goalkeeper slot by bringing in Bernd Leno, 26, from Bayer Leverkusen, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos, 30, and Stephan Lichsteiner, 34, have arrived to reinforce the defence.
Uruguay international Lucas Torreira was signed from Sampdoria, meanwhile, leading club icon Ian Wright to praise the work put into the transfer market thus far:

Great momentum in this window. Sokratis and Lichtsteiner's age and experience balanced off with one (maybe two) exciting young players. Great season & WC for Torreira and he could slot straight in but will need some time to settle. Patience key. #Arsenal #Torreira👌🏾
There were several notable departures at the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Per Mertesacker retiring to manage the club’s academy, while Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshereleft on free transfers.
Along with Torreira, Arsenal also wrapped up the acquisition of Lorient starlet Matteo Guendouzi last week, and Goal’s Robin Bairner broke down when he can bring to north London:

Emery often implemented a 4-3-3 system at Paris Saint-Germain but doesn’t have the depth in wing strength to optimise it with Arsenal. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the closest he has to an established senior winger, but the likes of Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi aren’t necessarily natural to the role.
Lucas Perez and last summer’s then-record signing Alexandre Lacazette have also been pushed out wide at times during their stints.
Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott both left the club in January, for Manchester United and Everton, respectively, while young forwards Reiss Nelson, 18, and Eddie Nketiah, 19, aren’t yet ready for first-team duties.
Emery’s predecessor Arsene Wenger recruited left-back Sead Kolasinac after he left Schalke last summer, but the robust Bosnian defender hasn’t been the success story Arsenal were hoping for.
The new manager has already moved to bring in what could be some key signings, but departures could be his most notable business in the weeks to come as Arsenal seek the finances they need to renovate their ranks.
