The Uruguay midfielder will finalise his transfer to the Emirates in the coming days
Arsenal will complete the signing of Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria next week, according to reports.
Torreira, the midfielder, is currently representing Uruguay at the World Cup, and he’s caught the eye on their route to the quarter-finals.
Arsenal have been in talks with the 22-year-old since before the tournament kicked-off in Russia, and it appears they are close to wrapping up a £25million deal for Torreira.
According the the Mail on Sunday, the north London club will next week finalise the agreement with Sampdoria for Torreira, the transfer expected to be announced when Uruguay’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.
Torreira scored four goals in 36 league appearances for Sampdoria last season, and he’s started two of Uruguay’s four matches at the World Cup, including Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Portugal in the round-of-16.
If signed next week, Torreira will become Unai Emery’s third signing since his appointment as Arsenal’s new manager to succeed Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners have already brought in Stephan Lichtsteiner, the full-back, from Juventus, and goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. The signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, the Borussia Dortmund central defender, is expected to also be announced this coming week.
