Arsenal manager Unai Emery spoke about midfielder Aaron Ramsey’s future on Friday and said he is keen for the Wales international to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsey’s current contract with the Gunners expires next summer. Emery stressed how important the midfielder is to his team, per Danny Wittenberg at the Mirror.

“For me it’s very important he stays with us,” he said. “His experience here in Arsenal and the Premier League is very important and will give us all the information and performances in his quality. Then, the contract is for speaking with the club and the players.”

Ramsey is yet to sign a contract extension. BBC Sport’s David Ornstein offered an update on the current situation:

The midfielder’s representatives, Avid Sports, denied speculation Ramsey wants £300,000 a week to stay at Arsenal, as shown by James Benge at the Evening Standard:

Arsenal will want Ramsey to sign a new contract, otherwise they run the risk of him leaving the club for free next summer.

The Welshman joined the club from Cardiff City in 2008. He has gone on to become one of their most important players.

He is an experienced international who can the dominate midfield and also has an eye for goal. The 27-year-old will want his new contract to reflect his standing at the club.

Ramsey has been unable to commit his future to the club, per James Benge of the Evening Standard:

“Talks are still ongoing, but I’ve got nothing more to say about that. We’ll see what happens, but my agent and the club are talking. I’m just leaving that to them to discuss and sort out.

“We’re yet to come to an agreement so that’s something that my agent and the club are discussing to try and get something done. I’m not sure exactly [when talks will be completed], it’s taken a bit of time so far so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Ramsey may also be waiting to see how the season pans out under new coach Emery. Arsene Wenger’s departure at the end of last season after more than 20 years in charge has ushered in a new era at Arsenal.
