Arsenal transfer round-up: Gunners prepared to sell Xhaka, Ozil to stay in January

[ad_1]

Arsenal have had their worst start to a top flight season since their 1974-75 campaign, while the 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Sunday meant it is also the first time since 1959 that Arsenal have lost four league games in a row at home.

They managed to arrest that run against Southampton, drawing 1-1 with the Saints after Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off.

Arteta has been publicly backed by the club’s technical director Edu and will get the chance to arrest their poor form.

With that in mind, the Gunners have been linked with several potential additions and outgoings as the January transfer window approaches.

So here’s the latest transfer news from The Emirates as speculation continues to circulate.

Ozil will not leave in January

After he was left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads at the start of the season, it appeared as though Mesut Ozil’s time at the Emirates was up.

Edu hinted that Ozil could leave in January but the player’s agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, has insisted he will stay.

Speaking to TMW, Sogut said: “Even one day is a long time in football, you never know. Of course, there are many clubs interested in him.

“This has never changed but his willingness to honour his contract and play hasn’t changed either. Again, he’s a man of his word, loyal, and loyalty is hard to find in these times.”

Torreira wants to stay at Atletico

Lucas Torreira has struggled for game time while on loan at Atletico Madrid this season, making just two starts in all competitions so far.

Reports from Italy have claimed that Diego Simeone is already convinced that he will not want to make the move a permanent one at the end of the season and he is even willing to cut short the loan in January.

However, Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur has denied these claims, telling Di Marzio: “Lucas is serene and has nothing in his mind beyond continuing with Atletico. He’s ending his period of adaptability.”

Gunners prepared to sell Xhaka

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to sell Granit Xhaka after his sending off in the 1-0 loss to Burnley, with the Daily Mail claiming that the Gunners are open to offers for the midfielder.

Speaking about Xhaka’s sending off, Arteta said: “[Xhaka’s] made a mistake, the dominance we had at that point… it’s a game we clearly had to win but down to ten men you give the opponent a chance.

“Yes it is unacceptable to do that action but it is because they are so willing to do more, fight more, and on this occasion Granit overstepped the line.
