Former Premier League striker Darren Bent says James Maddison would be a fantastic addition to Arsenal’s squad, but questions whether the signing is needed.
The Foxes midfielder managed to score eight goals and provide seven assists last season, despite suffering with injuries.
He helped the club qualify for next season’s Europa League, as well as playing a part in their FA Cup final win over Chelsea.
Arsenal are reported to have offered a player-plus-cash deal to sign Maddison, in a bid to get him slightly cheaper than Leicester’s £60million asking price.
However, Bent, who is an Arsenal fan, believes the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka can be the Gunners’ creative outlets next season and would rather they strengthen the squad in other areas.
“[Maddison] is a fantastic player. I’d love to see him in an Arsenal shirt, but I believe there’s other positions that are probably more important than maybe getting that playmaker,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“We’ve just seen [Emile] Smith Rowe, who was brilliant last season, signing a new contract.
“We’ve still got [Bukayo] Saka there too.
“Of course you want good players in, and Madison is a very good player, but maybe another central midfielder?
“Maybe a right-back? A right-back would be important.”
Arsenal are looking to replace the creativity that Martin Odegaard provided last season, after he spent the second half of last season on loan from Real Madrid.
There are still reports the Norwegian youngster could return to the Emirates on a permanent deal during this transfer window.

It’s back and just in time for the new Premier League season, which begins on 13 August with Brentford hosting Arsenal on Friday night
But it looks likely the Spanish giants will demand a sizeable fee for a player who was once considered one of the most exciting prospects in European football.
If they are to sign Maddison or Odegaard, Arsenal may have to sell some of their squad players, in a bid to raise funds this summer.
Hector Bellerin, Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson, and Eddie Nketiah are reportedly available for transfer.
