Arsenal are still extremely interested in signing Real Madrid ace Martin Odegaard in a permanent transfer.

The club are reportedly still keeping tabs on the Norwegian according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, but it isn’t a straight forward task to ensure that he returns to the Emirates.

The stumbling blocks in place are firstly if he wants to leave Real Madrid and secondly if the club actually want to sell him.

Odegaard has been at the club since 2015 when Los Blancos signed him as a 16-year-old.

Unfortunately for both parties he has been unable to fulfil the promise he showed as a teenager in Madrid.

Several successful loan moves have taken place in his career but he hasn’t really been able to nail down a spot at Real.

At Real Sociedad and Vitesse Arnhem he arguably produced his best form. Contributing 16 goals and assists in 36 games for the Spanish side and 23 in 39 games for the Dutch side.

And last term he helped improve the Gunners towards the end of the Premier League campaign.

Arsenal have been active in the transfer window and are still looking to bring in one or two more before time runs out.

The Gunners have sealed deals for Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga and have been linked with a move for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

That deal is however looking unlikely with the club unlikely to part ways with the Argentine given Romelu Lukaku’s imminent move return to Chelsea.

With Joe Willock returning to Newcastle United on a permanent deal, further funds are available and they will be desperate to bring in Odegaard to bolster their attack for this season.
