Can Arsenal bounce back vs. Tottenham? Will Bournemouth upset Chelsea?

[ad_1]

Alexis Nunes and Shaka Hislop break down Arsenal’s surprising loss to Southampton and determine if more defensive struggles are on the horizon for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s shock 3-2 loss at Southampton scuppered our 5/1 weekend treble as well as ending the Gunners’ 22-game unbeaten run. The focus shifts to the Carabao Cup this week and Unai Emery’s team will be hoping to bounce back against bitter rivals Tottenham.

The Banker

Spurs return to the scene of their 4-2 North London derby defeat earlier this month when they face Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday evening. Mauricio Pochettinho’s side are a 6/1 chance with bet365 to land a first trophy since 2008 but face a stiff test against the Gunners, who will still be hurting after that surprise defeat to Southampton. Arsenal are favourites at 31/20 to win in 90 minutes while the draw is a 13/5 chance. The Gunners were all over the shop defensively at the weekend but this could be a much tighter game than the six-goal thriller the teams played out on Dec. 2. Since that defeat Spurs have conceded just two goals in four matches and backing ‘Under 2.5 goals’ at 13/10 could be the way to go at the Emirates. The bet would have landed four times in the last six meetings between these two London powerhouses and while Wednesday’s game should be intriguing it may not produce the drama of their last meeting.

Selection: £5 on Under 2.5 goals at 13/10 with bet365.

The First Goal Flutter

Gabriel Jesus ended a four month long goal drought in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Everton at the weekend. The young striker grabbed two goals against the Toffees and he’s been priced up at 100/30 to score first when Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Leicester City on Tuesday. Kevin De Bruyne is set to feature for the Premier League champions, but Jesus could be the man to notch first at the King Power.

Selection: £3 on Jesus to score first at 100/30 with bet365.

The Tasty Treble

Middlesbrough’s form has been poor for a while now and they look very short at 2/5 to beat Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup. The Teessiders have been struggling to score goals so the draw at 4/1 looks appealing when the pair meet at the Riverside. Manchester City (4/11) and Chelsea (1/3) meanwhile should be too strong for Leicester and Bournemouth respectively. The treble with is available at just over 8/1 with bet365 and looks tempting.

Selection: £2 on the treble at 8.09/1 at bet365.

The Euro Wager

Bologna have been struggling this season and AC Milan can expose their limitations when the pair meet in Serie A on Tuesday. Milan are 20 points behind Juventus after just 16 games but remain very much in the hunt for a top four finish and should be trusted to get the win at the Stadio Renato Dall’Arra. Gonzalo Higuain has yet to have the impact some thought he might for the Rossoneri but he can lead Milan to victory and add to the seven goals he’s already scored this season.

Selection: £5 on AC Milan to win at 19/20 with bet365.

The Wildcard Tip

Chelsea host Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge and you can get odds of 10/1 for a 3-1 victory for the Blues on Wednesday evening. The club have been linked with a move for Cherries striker Callum Wilson in January’s transfer windows so it will be interesting to see if he features in this one. But even if he starts Bournemouth, who have claimed just one win in their last seven matches, look right up against it.

Selection: £1 on Chelsea to win 3-1 at 10/1 with bet365.
