Ozil was not named in the 18-man matchday squad and before the match, Emery insisted the decision was “tactical”.
In his absence, Arsenal struggled to create clear-cut chances and were well beaten by their north London rivals.

After the match, Emery was pressed on the Ozil situation and the Spaniard was unwilling to delve deep into the topic.
When asked if Ozil has a future at Arsenal, Emery said: “I am thinking about the match on Saturday, and not thinking about another situation.
“It’s a tactical decision because I thought that the players that were with us today were the best choices for this match.”
He was then asked if he would consider selling Ozil in January and replied: “My focus now is analysing this match and also Saturday against Burnley is very important.
“We are going to assess every player, how they are tomorrow in training and for a difficult match against Burnley on Saturday.
Ozil has missed several games this season through injury but Emery opted not to hide his reasoning for the German’s absence.
And it all puts Ozil’s position at the club in major doubt.
The 30-year-old has been linked with Inter Milan but he would probably have to take a pay cut from his current £350,000-a-week wages.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Emery has been brave in his handling of Ozil.
He said: “When a manager has the courage to make decisions like that, it gets everyone on their toes.
“Mesut Ozil is the highest-paid player, the biggest name if you like, the manager’s come in and has not been afraid to say you’re not in the team – you’re not even on my bench.
“That gets everyone saying, ‘If he does it to him, he could do it to us.’ And against Spurs, you could only see one outcome really. He’ll have his cameos, but I think as a starter, he’ll move him on.”
