Much like spectacular upsets at the World Cup, transfer rumors continue to come thick and fast. A host of players who shone in Russia could be on the move this summer, with Premier League and European clubs looking to strengthen ahead of the upcoming season.
Here, Newsweek guides through you the latest transfer gossip and rumors.
Let’s start with Arsenal who, according to talkSPORT, are keen to sign Argentina’s midfielder Cristian Pavon.
The Gunners reportedly had a $35.4 million offer for the Boca Juniors man knocked back in January, but could test the Argentine club’s resolve again, although Boca are in no rush to sell one of their jewels.
The Sun suggests Arsenal’s target Steven N’Zonzi will tell Sevilla he wants to leave the club once he returns from the World Cup. The Daily Express adds Arsenal have also been put on alert after Gelson Martins, who rescinded his deal with Sporting Lisbon last month, claimed he will not join Benfica.
On the other side of the North London divide, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to face competition from a number of sides in their quest to sign Nice forward Alassane Plea. The Sun claims West Ham and Fulham have both shown interest in bringing the striker to the Premier League.
One player who will stay put next season is Mohamed Salah, who signed a new five-year deal with Liverpool after a season during which he plundered 43 goals in all competitions. The Egyptian could be joined at Anfield by a new goalkeeper next season and the Daily Express claims Jurgen Klopp has identified Barcelona back-up goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as an alternative to long-standing target Roma shot-stopper Alisson.
The Times reports the Reds have not held further talks with Lyon over Nabil Fekir, since the Frenchman’s proposed move to Liverpool collapsed last month.
Liverpool are not the only team interested in signing a Ligue 1 midfielder, with The Sun reporting Manchester City and Manchester United have both met Adrien Rabiot’s agent over a possible transfer.
The two Manchester clubs will face competition from Juventus for the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, with the Serie A giants eager to bolster their midfield options after the arrival of former Liverpool star Emre Can.
United are also intent on luring Willian away from Chelsea but, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could attempt to derail their plan by offering more than the $65.6 million United were reportedly ready to fork out.
According to Calciomercato, Jose Mourinho is also eager to strengthen his defense and could table a $46 million offer for AC Milan‘s centre-back Leonardo Bonucci, in a bid to profit on the Italian club’s financial turmoil.
Willian’s current club remains caught in a weird limbo. The Blues have been expected to appoint Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte’s successor for over a month but they are yet to formally terminate the latter’s contract, which complicates their plans.
Meanwhile, Marca claims Real Madrid have made Thibaut Courtois their number one target after deeming Alisson too expensive and the Guardian believes Chelsea are ready to pay around $35 million for Russian sensation Aleksandr Golovin.
Finally, in what is a certainly a first, the Daily Mirror reports that newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid for the signing of Colombia star Juan Quintero.
