Wilfred Zaha has responded after a video showing the Crystal Palace star pointing towards a ‘Zaha to Arsenal’ sign went viral, insisting he cannot control what other people do.

The 27-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last summer before they eventually opted for Nicolas Pepe, is once again subject of transfer talk with manager Roy Hodgson confirming the forward wants to leave this summer.

With a seven-week break between the end of the Premier League season and the start of the 2020/21 campaign, Zaha is currently on holiday before pre-season gets underway shortly.

While in a nightclub, holiday companion Anthony Billing posted numerous pictures to his Instagram story, strongly encouraging Arsenal to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Billing first posted a picture showing a sign reading ‘Zaha to Arsenal’, with the caption: “So me and Wilfred Zaha have a message for you Arsenal.”

In Billing’s subsequent story, he wrote: “Arsenal if you don’t sign this man up you lot are… stupid you know the price is easy in today’s market.”

After the posts had gone viral, Zaha responded, insisting he had nothing to do with Billing’s messages.

“I’m just enjoying my time off and can’t control everything everyone does,” he said.

Billings later also insisted Zaha was not involved in the posts, claiming it was just a “joke”.

“I can confirm that Wilfred Zaha had no partake in the banter last night,” he said. “It was just a joke that I decided to go ahead with.”

Zaha’s links to Arsenal last summer arguably impacted his form thisseason, during which he scored just four goals in 38 games.

And while Palace will not want to stray from their £70million valuation, Standard Sport understands they would let him go should the valuation be met.
