Aaron Ramsey becomes shock Chelsea transfer target with Arsenal star still yet to sign new contract

Aaron Ramsey is a shock target for Chelsea.

The Arsenal midfielder has an offer of a new five-year deal at the Emirates, but that so far remains unsigned.

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is desperate to make changes to his side before the end of the transfer window, with his midfield one of his priorities.

Danny Drinkwater is expected to be sold, while Tiemoue Bakayoko is wanted on loan by Sevilla.

And with Ramsey still to decide where his future lies, he has become a surprise target for the Blues.

The 27-year-old joined Arsenal in 2008 in a £5million move from Cardiff City.

Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino is also on Chelsea’s transfer shortlist.

Speaking last week on the Gunners’ tour of Asia, Ramsey said that there is no deadline on him to make a decision over the new deal.

“Am I under pressure? No,” said Ramsey, whose current deal expires in under 12 months.

“It’s my decision and whatever I decide to do, that’s on me.

“What makes it awkward is the media keep asking the questions. It’s like having a baby in the car saying, ‘Are we there yet? Are we there yet?’

“Listen, I’m a player who always gives 100 per cent, regardless of what’s going on. I will be no different to that and I will give absolutely everything to try to achieve something special this season and win football games, regardless of what is going on behind the scenes.

“We are communicating. My agent and the club are speaking but we’re yet to come to an agreement.

“I’ve still got a year left and I’m looking forward to being in an Arsenal shirt in the new season and doing my best for this club. I’m hoping to have a successful season under the new manager.”
