Arsenal fans get their wish as Shkodran Mustafi refuses to rule out transfer away

ARSENAL fans may finally be granted their wish as Shkodran Mustafi admitted he would be “open” to a transfer away.

The German, 27, has long been the bane of Gunners supporters desperate to see their side solid at the back over recent years.

His frequent errors and seeming inability to learn from them meant plenty ran out of patience with the defender, wanting him sold this summer.

And Mustafi confirmed he would be willing to consider his next step – but will not follow the example of ex-captain Laurent Koscielny and force his way out.

He said: “My dad talked to the club. I am a player of Arsenal and have another two years of contract.

“I was never the one who starts a war when something does not work out.

“If something turns out, I’m open to taking the next step. If not, then I will continue my football.

“The coach told me that he sees me the same way as any player in the team. That’s why I played today.

“I do not want to say that this is not an issue. I have a wife and two children and that has to be sanctioned.

“If at some point a club from Germany has interest and it fits, I’m open for it.”

HELPING HAND

And unsurprisingly, plenty of the Gunners faithful were more than happy to show him the exit door and wanted to “leave him in Germany”.

One wrote: “I will give u a ladder to take a step Mustafi.”

Another said: “Okay Shkodran, thanks for the heads up. We’ll make sure to alert all League One clubs to the fact your now available.”

A third simply added: “Please go.”

However, some Arsenal fans were willing to change their tune over the World Cup winner.

The North Londoners kept their first clean sheet since the opening day of the season last night thanks to a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Mustafi partnered David Luiz at the back and received a positive reaction for his decent performance in Germany.

One wrote: “Beginning of season Mustafi told to leave because there’s no room for him. Now, the main man is back and in the starting XI for Europa games. I can’t tell if I’m excited or depressed or both or what.”

Another admitted: “I was really rooting for Mustafi to leave Arsenal during the summer window, but I’ll give credit where it is due: MUSTAFI PLAYED WELL TODAY.”

No club came in for Mustafi over the summer meaning boss Unai Emery was stuck with the former Valencia man, who they paid £35million for in 2016.

But with more game time and more solid performances, Mustafi may interest some clubs – or even win over his manager and supporters.
